June 11, 2007
Art Venegas has signed two more student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent, bringing this year's signing class to a total of 14 athletes. The latest signees include jumper Taylor Hobson and thrower Mark Weber.
Hobson (Upland HS) was a CA State Meet finalist last week, finishing fifth with a mark of 6-8. Hobson also ranks in the top-10 in the state in the long jump (22-4.50) and will add depth to the jumps group next season.
"Taylor has been a consistent, top level high jumper for the last few years," said head coach Art Venegas. "He will also help in the long jump next season."
Weber (El Camino HS) ended his season as one of the top-five discus throwers (188-10) and top-10 shot putters (58-9) in the state.
"Mark is one of the best combination throwers in the state," added Venegas. He has good size and great athleticism.
Hobson and Weber join Jonathan Clark (jumps, Loyola), Matthew Hanley (throws, Moorpark College), Fawad Khan (distances, Palos Verdes), Daniel Kirkpatrick (jumps, Trabuco Hills), Brian Law (hurdles, Villa Park), Thomas Nagengast (throws, Pasa Robles) and Quentin Powell (sprints, James Logan) as the Spring signees.
The Fall signees include Michael Cybulski (distance, Royal), Nevin Guttierez (sprints, JW North), Kent Morikawa (distance, Torrance), Cory Primm (middle distance, Westlake), Jason Ward (sprints, South Bakersfield) and Evan Watchempino (distance, Jesuit).
