UCLA Signs Agreement with Collegiate Licensing Company
June 22, 2009
The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), a division of IMG Worldwide, today announced it has reached an agreement with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) to manage its domestic U.S. trademark licensing program effective July 1, 2009.
"UCLA is one of the premier collegiate institutions in the country, and we are honored to have been selected to represent its domestic licensing program" said Derek Eiler, CLC's Senior Vice President and Managing Director. "With its first trademark license issued in 1973, UCLA was among the first universities to establish a trademark licensing program and has built a highly respected in-house program. We look forward to partnering with UCLA to help maximize its licensing program as it enters the next phase of its evolution," added Eiler."
UCLA boasts 376,000 living alumni, five faculty and four alumni Nobel Laureates, 104 team NCAA Championships, and is the most popular campus in the nation for freshman applicants with more than 55,000 applications in the fall of 2008. UCLA possesses one of the most widely recognized university brands in the world. Moving forward with CLC's assistance on its U.S. licensing program, UCLA Trademarks & Licensing in-house staff will now focus additional resources toward the University's commitment to social responsibility, expanding UCLA's highly successful international licensing program and strategic brand initiatives.
"UCLA is a world-class institution that enjoys a high-demand for its brand on licensed merchandise," states Robert Williams, Executive Director of Associated of Students UCLA which manages UCLA's worldwide licensing and campus retail programs. "We have built a tremendous foundation for UCLA's licensing program, and we believe this new partnership with CLC, the industry leader in collegiate licensing, will help us further grow our program through innovative initiatives and enhanced relationships that will expand UCLA's market presence."
Proceeds from UCLA's trademark licensing program go to protect and promote the University's name, enhance student activities and facilities, and support athletic programs.
"CLC is unmatched in the area of collegiate licensing," says Dan Guerrero, Director of Athletics at UCLA, "and when people mention universities that are at the pinnacle of academic and athletic excellence, UCLA is always part of that conversation. The partnership of CLC and UCLA will take one of the most recognizable collegiate brands in the country to the next level by complementing our already successful branding efforts and maximizing UCLA's visibility throughout the nation and worldwide."
UCLA joins Pacific-10 Conference (PAC-10) member institutions The University of Arizona, University of California, Berkeley, Oregon State University, Stanford University, the University of Washington, and Washington State University to become the seventh PAC-10 institution represented by CLC.
