Several players on the UCLA men's volleyball team recently earned accolades for their academic prowess.
Three key performers were named to the 2009 MPSF All-Academic Team: seniors Ryan Ratelle and Sean O'Malley and redshirt freshman Jack Polales. Ratelle will graduate with a degree in Economics, boasts a 3.4 cumulative grade point average and has been named to the Director's Honor Roll each of the last eight quarters. O'Malley claims four nominations to the DHR, will graduate with a degree in Philosophy and a 3.1 GPA. Polales has an overall GPA of 3.2 and has earned a pair of mentions on the DHR.
In addition, a total of 13 players were invited to the annual UCLA Scholar Athlete Banquet on May 11 with senior setter Matt Wade receiving an important honor.
Wade, 22, received the Maggie Gilbert Academic Achievement Award, given to the senior male student-athlete who has improved his grade point average every year throughout his tenure at UCLA. Wade is scheduled to graduate this year with a degree in Classic Civilizations. Three times he has earned mention on the Director's Honor Roll.
Through the first two quarters of the academic year, 30 players had earned mention on the Director's Honor Roll.
