WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior right-hander Trevor Bauer has earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the seventh time in his career and fourth week this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Bauer has also captured Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week accolades for the sixth time in his career and fourth week this season, as announced by Collegiate Baseball. He earned both awards one week ago.
Bauer struck out 13 batters, scattering four hits and issuing one walk, in a complete game Saturday as UCLA shut out Arizona, 4-0. He pitched his eighth career complete game and became UCLA's career wins leader (28), surpassing Alex Sanchez's record of 27 wins (record stood since 1987). In addition, Bauer pushed his school record-leading career strikeout total to 367 and moved into fourth place on the school's career innings pitched list (310.1).
Currently the NCAA's active career strikeouts leader (and national strikeouts leader this season), Bauer has registered at least 10 strikeouts in eight of his nine starts this spring. He also captured Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors on March 7, March 28 and April 11 this season.
Bauer leads all Pac-10 pitchers with 110 strikeouts and 73.2 innings and is tied for the lead in victories (7) with Oregon State's Sam Gaviglio. Bauer ranks first in opponent batting average (.148) and third in ERA (1.47). The right-hander from Valencia, Calif., has recorded 10 strikeouts or more in eight of his nine starts this season.
No. 20 UCLA returns to action against San Diego State on Tuesday. Game time at Jackie Robinson Stadium is 6 p.m. Admission to all Tuesday home games this season costs $2 as part of the Bruins' ongoing "Two-Dollar Tuesday" promotion.
