LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 24 UCLA baseball team saw its five-game win streak end with a 4-2 loss at Long Beach State before 1,367 at Blair Field in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

The Bruins (27-17) were limited to two runs and five hits by the host 49ers (24-22). Long Beach State scored two runs in the first inning and led by a 4-0 margin after five innings, holding on the rest of the way for the victory and splitting the season series against UCLA at one game apiece.

Long Beach State right-hander Shawn Stuart (3-3) notched the victory, scattering two hits through five scoreless innings. Stuart struck out four batters after walking the game's first two hitters.

UCLA right-hander Zack Weiss (5-2) absorbed the loss, surrendering four runs and five hits in four innings as UCLA's starting pitcher. Weiss recorded three strikeouts and one walk, suffering his first defeat since March 27.

Cody Regis led UCLA at the plate, scoring both runs after going 1-for-3 with a triple.

Long Beach State received two-hit efforts from Jeff McNeil (2-for-3, one run), Mike Marjama (2-for-3, one RBI) and Matt Duffy (2-for-4, one RBI).

In Long Beach State's two-run first inning, Matt Hibbert drew a hit-by-pitch as the leadoff batter and moved to second base on McNeil's single. A wild pitch pushed both baserunners up 90 feet, before a sacrifice fly to right field by Ino Patron scored Hibbert. With two outs, Duffy singled up the middle to send home McNeil.

The 49ers added one run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. Brennan Metzger reached first base on a walk, stole second base and advanced to third on the same pitch as a wild pitch raced to the backstop. A groundout to second base by Johnny Bekakis sent home Metzger in the bottom of the fourth. In the next inning, a base-hit through the left side of the infield by Marjama plated Hibbert.

UCLA scored a two-out run in the sixth inning. With runners at first and second, Chris Giovinazzo loaded the bases with a two-out base-hit to right field. Steve Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk to send home Regis before Long Beach State's Jon Maciel struck out Pat Valaika to end UCLA's threat.

The Bruins added one run in the top of the eighth inning on a deep sacrifice fly by Cody Keefer, who sent home Regis after the Bruins' third baseman reached with a leadoff triple to the 400-foot sign in center field.

UCLA hosts UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday evening. Game time is 6 p.m. at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Fans can listen to a live audio broadcast online, free of charge, at uclabruins.com.
