UCLA Women's Basketball Signs Top Guard Alexis Perry

May 16, 2011
UCLA head women's basketball coach Cori Close announced today the signing of guard Alexis Perry, a highly-rated local high school standout from Brea Olinda HS in Orange County. Perry will enter UCLA in the fall of 2011 as a freshman.
A 5-7 point guard, Perry averaged 10.0 points per game last season for a Brea Olinda squad which was ranked as the nation's top team for much of 2010-11. The Wildcats finished the season with a 31-2 record and ranked fourth in the country and second in the state of California. Perry had two of her most productive games against a couple of her school's biggest rivals, scoring 22 points in the CIF State Div. II championship game against Mater Dei HS and 19 points in a game earlier in the year versus Long Beach Poly HS.
An explosive athlete, Perry earned honorable mention All-State honors last season from Max Preps. She was a first-team All-Orange County selection by the Orange County Register and an L.A. Times All-Area pick following her senior season. Perry averaged 9.7 points per game as a junior while helping lead Brea to a 31-3 record and the No. 3 ranking in the country. She was named first-team all-county.
UCLA finished last season with a 28-5 record after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins were second in the Pacific-10 conference and were ranked No. 13 in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.
"Alexis is not only an outstanding basketball player but an exceptional person with lots of energy and emotion," said Close. "We look forward to her joining the Bruin family and contributing to the success of our program. She turned down numerous Pac-12 scholarship offers to join us, and we feel fortunate to add a student-athlete of her caliber at this stage of the recruiting process. Alexis is a great get at the perfect time for UCLA women's basketball."
