WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior right-hander Trevor Bauer has earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the sixth time his season, setting a conference record, as announced by the Pac-10 office this afternoon.
Bauer has earned the conference's Pitcher of the Week award 10 times in his career. In addition, he has captured Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week accolades for the seventh time this season and 10th time in his career, as announced by Collegiate Baseball.
Bauer hurled his eighth consecutive complete game, his ninth of the season and 14th of his career, to lead UCLA past Arizona State, 7-0, on Saturday. The Bruins clinched at least a share of the Pac-10 title Saturday and won it outright Sunday. Bauer struck out 14 batters and walked one, scattering five hits in his third complete-game shutout this year.
He improved to 12-2 on the season with a 1.27 ERA and currently leads the nation with 189 strikeouts, the second-highest single-season total in Pac-10 history.
The UCLA baseball team opens NCAA Regional action against San Francisco on Friday, June 3. Game time at UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium is 6 p.m.
