UCLA's Trevor Bauer Among 30 Golden Spikes Semifinalists

DURHAM, N.C. - UCLA junior right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer has been named as one of 30 semifinalists for the 2011 Golden Spikes Award, as announced Tuesday afternoon by USA Baseball.

Named the Pac-10 Conference's Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday, Bauer has gone 12-2 with a 1.27 ERA, logging a nation-best 189 strikeouts and 34 walks in 127.2 innings. The native of Valencia, Calif., has thrown eight consecutive complete games, nine overall this season, and has established a conference record by securing six Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week awards this spring.

The Golden Spikes Award is presented at the end of each college baseball season to the nation's top amateur player. Fans can follow online at GoldenSpikesAward.com as the list of 30 players is narrowed to three finalists on Monday, June 6. Bauer along with Virginia pitcher Danny Hultzen, Texas pitcher Taylor Jungmann and Rice infielder Anthony Rendon were semifinalists for the 2010 Golden Spikes Award and return to the list in 2011.

For the first time ever, the Golden Spikes Award will be awarded live on MLB Network. The presentation will begin at 3 p.m. (PDT) on Friday, July 15 on the program "MLB Tonight."

Bauer has become UCLA's all-time record holder in career strikeouts (446), wins (33) and innings pitched (364.1) and is tied with two former pitchers for second place on the career complete games list (14).
