Trevor Bauer Captures Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior right-hander Trevor Bauer has earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year honors, while freshman right-hander Adam Plutko and sophomore outfielder Beau Amaral have also secured All-Pac-10 Team accolades, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Bauer has become the first pitcher from UCLA to earn Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year honors since Pete Janicki in 1992. The native of Valencia, Calif., has gone 12-2 with a Pac-10-leading 1.27 ERA and nation-best 189 strikeouts this season. Bauer set a conference record by securing six Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week awards this season.
Five UCLA players have secured honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors - junior right-hander Gerrit Cole, junior left-hander Mitchell Beacom, junior catcher Steve Rodriguez, sophomore outfielder Cody Keefer and freshman right-hander Nick Vander Tuig.
Bauer has earned All-Pac-10 Team honors in each of his three seasons at UCLA and is the only three-time winner named to this year's team. He currently leads all Pac-10 pitchers in ERA (1.27), opponent batting average (.152), strikeouts (189) and innings pitched (127.2). In conference games, Bauer went 8-1 with eight complete games in nine starts, logging 118 strikeouts and 16 walks in 80.0 innings.
Plutko has gone 6-4 with a 2.16 ERA, the fourth-lowest mark among Pac-10 pitchers. The freshman from Upland, Calif., has tallied 86 strikeouts and 22 walks in 100.0 innings, limiting the opposition to a .204 batting average. Plutko went 3-2 with a 2.51 ERA and one complete game shutout in nine Pac-10 starts.
Amaral batted .307 with two home runs, 29 RBI, a team-leading 16 doubles, three triples and a team-best 35 runs scored in 54 starts (the last 50 in center field). The product of Huntington Beach, Calif., leads UCLA with a .411 on-base percentage and ranks second on the ballclub in slugging percentage (.444). Amaral hit at a team-leading .347 clip in 27 Pac-10 starts, ranking fourth in the conference with a .445 on-base percentage in Pac-10 games.
Plutko and Amaral have each secured All-Pac-10 Team honors for the first time in their careers.
Cole has gone 6-7 with a 3.28 ERA, 108 strikeouts and 23 walks in 107.0 innings. Beacom has posted a 2.20 ERA and 0-2 record in 25 relief appearances, logging 38 strikeouts and nine walks in 32.2 innings. Rodriguez has started 41 games as UCLA's catcher, batting .206 with 17 RBI. Keefer has batted .305 as UCLA's everyday left fielder, logging a .405 on-base percentage. Vander Tuig leads the Bruins with eight saves, having gone 3-3 with a 2.57 ERA in 25 relief appearances.
California's Tony Renda earned Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year honors. Arizona State infielder Deven Marrero was named the Defensive Player of theYear, and Stanford infielder Brian Ragira captured Freshman of the Year acclaim. Oregon State's Pat Casey was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
