LYNCHBURG, Va. - UCLA right-hander Adam Plutko has captured second-team Freshman All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, as announced by the NCBWA on Monday.
Plutko went 7-4 with a 2.01 ERA as UCLA's No. 3 starter in 2011. The native of Upland, Calif., logged 92 strikeouts and 24 walks in 107.2 innings, limiting the opposition to a .193 batting average.
Through Sunday's postseason games, Plutko ranked second in the Pac-10 in ERA (2.01), fourth in opposing batting average (.193) and eighth in strikeouts (92). He limited the opposition to two runs or fewer in 12 of his 15 starts and recorded at least six innings or more in 14 of his 16 appearances.
An All-Pac-10 Team selection in 2011, Plutko has already secured Freshman All-America acclaim from Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball.
Plutko was one of four starting pitchers selected as a second-team NCBWA Freshman All-America recipient, while three starters were named first-team All-America selections.
