UCLA's Trevor Bauer Named Dick Howser Trophy Finalist

OMAHA, Neb. - UCLA junior right-hander Trevor Bauer has been named as one of three finalists for the 2011 Dick Howser Trophy, along with Virginia left-hander Danny Hultzen and Texas right-hander Taylor Jungmann.
Bauer has already been named National Player of the Year by Baseball America and Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball, National Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game USA and the Pac-10 Conference's Pitcher of the Year.
The resident of Valencia, Calif., went 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA in 16 starts as a junior, logging a nation-leading and Pac-10 single-season record 203 strikeouts. He hurled 10 complete games, finishing the season with a streak of nine consecutive complete games.
Bauer established himself as UCLA's all-time record holder in career strikeouts (460), wins (34) and innings pitched (373.1). He also owns the top two marks on UCLA's single-season records list, having logged 203 strikeouts in 2011 and 165 in 2010.
The Dick Howser Trophy will be presented by Easton Foundations in balloting by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in conjunction with the College Baseball Foundation, the Dick Howser Trophy committee and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
The winner of this year's trophy will be announced at 8 a.m. (PDT) on Tuesday, June 21, during a national news conference at TD Ameritrade Park - the first-year home of the 65th annual College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Bauer, along with Hultzen and Jungmann, have also been named the three finalists for the 2011 Golden Spikes Award. The Dick Howser Award is presented to the nation's top NCAA Division I baseball player. The Golden Spikes Award is given to the country's premier amateur baseball player, as selected by USA Baseball.
Each finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy embodies the major principles of character, leadership, desire and competitive spirit exhibited by Dick Howser, the All-America shortstop and later head coach at Florida State before managing the Kansas City Royals to the World Series title in 1985. He is also the namesake for Dick Howser Stadium at Florida State.
