Tatum Souza captured the California Invitational heptathlon crown on Thursday with a big lifetime-best score of 5350 points. Today's score improved upon her previous lifetime-best by over four hundred points (old best, 4927).
Souza was first after day one and never looked back after posting two lifetime-best performances on day two of the heptathlon. The sophomore started off the day with a lifetime-best jump in the long jump, 18-5 for 732 points and the seventh-best jump of the day. She then posted the seventh-best javelin mark with a season-best throw of 114-6 (570 pts.). Souza ended the day with a runner-up finish in the 800m as she PR'd by seven seconds (2:18.50, 849 pts.).
Her score of 5350 points moves her to No. 10 all-time in UCLA history. The point total also moves her into the top 25 in the NCAA this season.
