Track & Field Ready to Compete at Pac-12 Championships

The men's and women's track and field squads will travel to Eugene, OR this weekend to compete in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship meet on Saturday and Sunday. After the completion of the heptathlon and decathlon last weekend, the women stand in fourth-place after Tatum Souza's fifth-place finish and the men lead the team race after picking up 15 points from Marcus Nilsson (2nd), Dominic Giovannoni (5th) and David Thomas (6th) in the decathlon.
Oregon has won both the team titles for the past three years. Last season, the Bruin men tied for third, while the women finished sixth.
Junior Turquoise Thompson and Ida Storm lead the Bruins into the meet. Thompson will be looking to win her third consecutive 400m hurdles crown, while Storm will definitely vie for the hammer title. Thompson ranks third in the hurdles (56.92) after competing in just one race this season. Storm ranks second (217-6) heading into the meet and placed second last year.
On the men's side, Mike Woepse and Alec Faldermeyer lead the Bruin men into the conference meet. Both rank first in their respective events (Woepse in the pole vault, 18-2.50 and Faldermeyer in the hammer, 229-3) and will be looking to win their first conference titles. Last year, Woepse's older brother, Greg, won the Pac-12 pole vault crown. Mike finished in a tie for 13th, while Faldermeyer placed second.
