TUCSON, Ariz. - UCLA closer Scott Griggs has captured third-team NCAA Division I Louisville Slugger All-America honors as announced Thursday by Collegiate Baseball. Griggs' 15 saves this spring has established UCLA's single-season record.
The hard-throwing 6-foot-4 right-hander has gone 3-1 with a 2.27 ERA in 34 relief appearances, tied for the second-highest total in the Pac-12 with teammate Ryan Deeter.
Griggs, a junior from Alamo, Calif., ranks second on UCLA's pitching staff with 61 strikeouts. He has limited the opposition to a .150 batting average and has issued 31 walks.
Named an All-Pac-12 selection earlier this week, Griggs went 2-0 with a 1.10 ERA in 15 conference games. He totaled 27 strikeouts and seven walks in 16.1 innings in Pac-12 play.
UCLA returns to action against Creighton at the NCAA Los Angeles Regional on Friday, June 1. Game time at UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium is 7 p.m.
