Los Angeles, Calif. - Sophomore golfer Patrick Cantlay has been named to the Second-Team CoSIDA All-Academic Division I Men's At Large Team, becoming the first UCLA men's golfer to be named to the CoSIDA All-Academic Team.
Cantlay, a sophomore from Los Alamitos, Calif., is the world's number one ranked amateur and became the first UCLA golfer to win the Hogan Award last month. He led the Bruins with five top five finishes, including a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships last week, and a 71.2 scoring average this season. Cantlay also earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors and made the cut at the 2012 Masters back in April, winning the Silver Cup for finishing as the low amateur (T-47th). In addition, he won the Nicklaus Award as the Division I Player of the Year in 2011 and won the Phil Mickelson Award as the GCAA Freshman of the Year the same year. He also was voted the 2011 GolfWeek Player of the Year and was a consensus first-team All-American as a freshman last season. Cantlay currently owns a 3.30 GPA as a History major.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
