Pitching coach Gary Adcock enters his third season as UCLA’s pitching coach.

Over the course of his first two seasons at UCLA, Adcock has tutored his pitchers to a 5.27 ERA and over 380 strikeouts per season.

Adcock, who lettered as a pitcher for the Bruins in 1992 and 1993, spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons as the pitching coach at Purdue, helping the Boilermakers compile a 59-53 record. The 2000 pitching staff ranked first in the Big Ten with a combined ERA of 4.12.

In 1999 and 2000, Adcock served as head coach of the Kenai Peninsula Oilers and led the team to consecutive Alaskan Summer Baseball League championships. The Oilers also competed in the NBC Tournament both summers, finishing second in the nation in 1999 and fourth in 2000. In two years, the team compiled a 71-34 record, and made Adcock the Oilers’ all-time leader for winning percentage by a head coach with two or more seasons. The Oilers’ 2000 pitching staff set a team record with a 2.63 ERA.

This is Adcock’s second assignment as a UCLA assistant coach. He began his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant at UCLA in 1994, following a two-year stint as a member of the pitching staff. He finished his UCLA playing career (1992-93) with nine victories in 34 apperances. After he left UCLA, he coached at Cal Baptist University, Riverside City College and UC Riverside before joining the Boilermaker staff.

A native of Riverside, Adcock holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from UCLA, a master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University and a teaching credential in secondary social science from Cal Baptist University.

Adcock was married in July to Mandy Huffman. The couple resides in South Pasadena.
