Jason Tarver is in his third season as a defensive graduate assistant after playing at Santa Clara University and West Valley College. He is currently enrolled in the PhD program at UCLA in Biochemistry. Tarver won the 1998 UCLA Chemistry Department Prize for Distinguished Teaching for instruction in Biochem classes.
On the field in 1998, Tarver worked with the defensive backfield. He also assisted with special teams and helped with the defensive backs during the games. In 1999, he again worked with the defensive backs and assisted coach Field.
The Northern California native earned a scholarship to Santa Clara. After the Broncos cut their football program, Tarver moved on to play defensive back at West Valley College in 1994 and 1995 while still attending SCU. A series of injuries cut his playing career short after West Valley. He was a Phi Beta Kappa student and a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon and Alpha Epsilon while at SCU.
At West Valley, Jason won the Coaches' Award in 1994. In 1995, the strong safety was credited with 40 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery and also served as captain of the special teams. He returned as an assistant coach at West Valley for the defensive backs and special teams in 1996-97.
Jason attended Foothill High School in Pleasanton, CA and played wingback and defensive back for coach Matt Sweeney. He also was a two-year member of the baseball team.
