Sophomore pitcher Keira Goerl (Moreno Valley, CA/Valley View HS) of the UCLA Softball Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 13-19.

Goerl helped UCLA advance to the College World Series after an MVP performance at the NCAA Regional in Columbia, SC. Goerl was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 20 innings in the circle. She struck out 33 batters while only allowing a single walk and scattering six hits. Opposing batters combined for a meager .087 batting average against Goerl in the tournament.

In her first performance of the Regional, she no-hit Eastern Kentucky in a 10-0 run-rule victory for the Bruins. Despite only having to throw five innings, Goerl still struck out 12 batters, and her only walk of the tournament was the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect game. She threw 56 pitches in the game, 44 for strikes.

On Saturday against Georgia, she held the Bulldogs to three hits, and the only run she allowed in the tournament was unearned.

After UCLA's 20-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday afternoon against South Carolina, Goerl stpped into the circle with UCLA's post-season future in her hands, as the winner of the game would go to the World Series. The Bruins scored a single run in the bottom of the first inning, and that was all the offense Goerl would need, as she struck out 10 Gamecocks, scattered three hits and did not walk a batter.

This is Goerl's first UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and her career.

Also nominated: Chris Cordeiro (baseball), Sheena Johnson (w. track & field), John Merrick (m. golf), Scott Moser (m. track & field), Lena Nilsson (w. track & field), Jean-Julien Rojer (m. tennis) and Sara Walker (w. tennis).
