Student-Athlete Of The Week
Matt Taylor

• Sophomore
• Irvine, CA
• Irvine HS

Sophomore forward Matt Taylor (Irvine, CA/Irvine HS) of the UCLA Men's Soccer Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-12.

Taylor, from Irvine, Calif., scored two goals and recorded one assist as UCLA closed out the regular season with wins over Oregon State and No. 10 Washington last week. In the 1-0 victory over the Beavers, Taylor netted the game's lone goal for his second game-winner on the year. Against the Huskies, he keyed the Bruins' two comebacks. Taylor assisted on the goal that tied the game at 1-1 in the first half. He then scored on a bicycle kick with 1:26 left to play, sending the match into overtime. UCLA would win, 3-2 in OT.

Taylor's goals were his fourth and fifth of the season. He now ranks second on the team in scoring, with five goals and 12 points.

UCLA (10-6-4 overall, 5-2-1 Pac-10), which concluded regular-season play last weekend, must await its fate in the Pac-10 title race. Stanford (14-4-1, 4-1-1) has two matches remaining on its schedule, and with some help from the Cardinal's opponents, UCLA could clinch at least a share of the Pac-10 title.

This is Taylor's first career UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor.

Also nominated: Staci Duncan (women's soccer), Lauren Fendrick (women's volleyball), Valerie Flores (women's cross country), Regan Gosnell (women's swimming & diving), Bryan Green (men's cross country), Brian Poli-Dixon (football) and Alfonso Tucay (men's water polo).
