Ally Carda Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of Week

April 19, 2013
Sophomore Ally Carda (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove HS) of the UCLA softball team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (Apr. 8-14).
Carda helped the Bruins to their first Pac-12 series win against #8 California, earning a pair of victories and also producing hits in all three games. At the plate, Carda went 4-for-12 (.333) with two extra base hits, two runs and an RBI. In the circle, she struck out 20 in 15 2/3 innings of relief, posting a 1.79 earned run average.
On Thursday, Carda tossed 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief, striking out seven and giving up just two walks to record the win, and was also at the plate when the Bruins scored their walk-off run in the ninth on a Cal throwing error. On Friday, Carda threw five more frames of shutout relief, striking out five and giving up just one hit and one walk. She went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI triple, but it was her two-out double in the ninth that sparked a rally, as she scored the game-winning run on a Jessica Hall single. On Saturday, Carda extended her weekend shutout streak to 15 innings before allowing four runs in her seventh frame of relief. She struck out eight, allowing five hits.
This is Carda's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
