David Berg Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Sophomore reliever David Berg has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 15-21, as announced by the conference office today.
Berg pitched 7.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters. The Covina, Calif. native picked up a win and two saves while helping the Bruins to three road victories on the week, including a pair of shutout wins over No. 10 Oregon. He fanned three and did not allow a baserunner in a four-inning outing against UC Irvine on Tuesday en route to earning his fourth win of the season. Berg then held Oregon scoreless in 3.1 innings of work on Friday and Saturday, to claim his ninth and 10th saves of the season in UCLA's back-to-back 1-0 wins. Berg, who has not allowed a run in his last nine appearances (16 innings), leads the Bruins with a 0.85 ERA.
This is Berg's first career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week selection and UCLA's 63rd all-time.
The Bruins (25-11, 9-6 Pac-12) will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Long Beach State Dirtbags at 6 p.m. out at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
