Three Bruins Finish in Top 10 of ITA Singles Rankings
Junior Robin Anderson ended the year as UCLA's highest-ranked player, checking in at No. 2 behind North Carolina freshman Jamie Loeb, a player who Anderson beat in straight sets in the finals of the NCAA Team Championships on May 20. Freshman Jennifer Brady and junior Chanelle Van Nguyen were also ranked in the top 10 at No. 8 and No. 10, respectively. The other two players who finished the year ranked in singles for UCLA were Kyle McPhillips (No. 38) and Catherine Harrison (No. 81).
In doubles, the Bruins were one of two schools (North Carolina is the other) to have two teams end the year in the top 10. Anderson and Brady, who were ranked No. 1 for most of the season, finished at No. 5. Harrison and McPhillips check in at No. 8. Courtney Dolehide and Van Nguyen entered the rankings for the first time at No. 67.
The Final ITA Team Rankings were released last week and as expected UCLA finished as the No. 1 team in America.
UCLA had a total five players earn All-America honors in 2014. In order to be named an All-American for singles, players had to meet one of the following criteria: Top 16 seed in NCAA Singles Draw; reach round of 16 in NCAA Singles Championships; finish in the top 20 of final ITA Singles Rankings. In doubles, All-America honors were given to those who were a top 8 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championships; reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships or finished in the top 10 of the final ITA Doubles Rankings.
Based on the above criteria, UCLA's All-Americans for 2014 are: Robin Anderson (Singles & Doubles), Jennifer Brady (Singles & Doubles), Chanelle Van Nguyen (Singles), Catherine Harrison (Doubles) and Kyle McPhillips (Doubles).
