UCLA in the Rankings

LOS ANGELES – On the heels of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Collegiate Invitational the UCLA track & field team now has nine athletes ranked in the top 25 in the country in their respective events.
A trio of Bruins rank fourth in the nation in their field events. Senior All-American Ida Storm holds a season best of 213-6 in the hammer while junior Nicholas Scarvelis has thrown a personal best of 65-0.50 in the shot put and senior Zibby Boyer has cleared a personal best 6-1.25 in the high jump.
Sitting just outside the top 10 is junior Nick Hartle in the 800m. His season opening time of 1:47.68 ranks 11th in the country.
Senior Alexis Walker joins Boyer in the high jump with the 14th best mark in the country. Walker opened the season with a leap of 5-11.25.
Sophomore Torie Owers has shot up in the rankings with her season best in the shot put this past weekend. Owers threw 52-7.25 to check in at 15th in the nation. Also in the shot put, redshirt freshman Braheme Days is 19th with a throw of 62-1.25.
Junior Austin O’Neil jumped into the top 25 in the 1,500m with his performance this past weekend. O’Neil clocked a personal best 3:44.51 to rank 20th in the country.
Sophomore Zaybree Haury rounds out the Bruins in the rankings by holding the 21st best mark in the javelin with a personal best throw of 160-0.
Both UCLA teams stayed in the national rankings as the men moved to 21 while the women check in this week at 20.
The Bruins will next compete at the 57th Annual Mt. SAC Relays, which will begin on Thursday, April 16, at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the Mt. San Antonio College campus in Walnut, Calif.
