SAN FRANCISCO - For the third time this season, senior Ally Carda was named Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week, earning the honor for the sixth time in her career on Monday.
Carda has earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week accolades three times in each of the last two seasons, with her six awards tying her with B'Ann Burns for the third-most Pitcher weekly honors in UCLA history and trailing only Keira Goerl (11) and Anjelica Selden (10).
Carda received her first two awards this season in back-to-back weeks on March 9 and 16 to become the first Bruin since Selden (2006) to earn consecutive weekly honors from the conference. It is the 61st Pac-10/12 Pitcher of the Week award for UCLA.
The senior pitched back-to-back, complete-game wins in the first two contests of last weekend's series sweep of #18 California, posting her 19th and 20th victories of the year and striking out 15 in 12 2/3 innings.
Carda began the series with a one-hit shutout on Friday, April 17, striking out six and giving up just two baserunners. She struck out one in every inning, including two in the second, setting down the last seven of the game.
On Saturday, April 18, Carda picked up win number 20, striking out nine in her 12th complete game of the season. She fanned two apiece in the first, second, fourth and seventh.
Carda leads the Bruins with a 1.93 earned run average, a 20-4 record and 216 strikeouts in 152 innings.
The Bruins travel to Corvallis for a wraparound weekend series at Oregon State, Saturday at 1 p.m., Sunday at 12 p.m. and Monday at 4 p.m. The last two contests will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
