UCLA Wraps Up Weekend at Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UCLA track & field team wrapped up the weekend at the Triton Invitational, held on the campus of UCSD.
The Bruins posted three wins and 13 top 10 finishes at the annual meet held at the Triton Track & Field Stadium.
Freshman Leon Powell opened the winning ways for UCLA when he claimed the 100m title with a time of 10.67. Senior Zibby Boyer won the high jump against collegiate competition with a leap of 5-8.
Sophomore Torie Owers threw a big season best to finish ninth overall and fourth against collegiate competition in the shot put. Her mark of 54-8 was her best throw since her UCLA top-10 toss of 55-2.75 during the indoor season.
Junior Faith Anumba closed out the field events with a win in the triple jump with a season best leap of 40-2.75.
Also posting top 10 finishes for the Bruins was sophomore Jonny Moniz in the 400m with a time of 48.13 to place second. Senior Mark Sakioka finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 15-7 while freshman Joe Herrera was fourth in the 200m with a 22.19.
Junior Jen Owen finished fifth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:30.75. Junior Nicholas Scarvelis bounced back this weekend with a sixth place finish in the shot put with a mark of 63-4.75.
Redshirt freshman Ashley Lewis clocked a 24.75 to place seventh in the 200m while freshman Misana Viltz placed eighth in the 110m hurdles in 14.64 and junior Andre Chapman ran 53.84 in the 400m hurdles to finish eighth.
Senior Tatum Souza leaped 18-1.50 in the long jump to place ninth while junior Katherine Salcido posted a 13.98 in the 100m hurdles to finish 10th.
UCLA will return to the oval next weekend to face crosstown rival USC. The meet is scheduled for, Sunday, May 3, and will be hosted by the Trojans. Pac-12 Networks will carry the rivalry dual meet.
