UCLA to Face Off Against Rival USC

LOS ANGELES – The highly anticipated dual meet on the oval between rivals UCLA and USC will take place on Sunday, May 3, at Loker Stadium from 2-6 p.m. The meet will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks from 4-6 p.m. The hammer throw competition will be held at CSULA on May 2 at 2 p.m.
UCLA split with USC last season at Drake Stadium as the men secured their fourth straight victory in the series, 89-74, while the women fell, 95-68. The Bruins swept the Trojans in the last meeting at USC. The men won, 85-78, while the women pulled off a 90-73 victory. It was the first sweep for UCLA since 2006.
Overall USC leads the series on the men’s side, 42-39, while UCLA holds a commanding lead in the women’s competition, 22-9.
The Bruins enter the dual meet with 11 athletes ranked in the top-25 in the country in their respective events, including five in the top 10. Leading the way for UCLA in the national rankings is senior Zibby Boyer in the high jump with her mark of 6-1.25.
Senior Marcus Nilsson holds the sixth best score in the decathlon with 7,599 points while senior Ida Storm sports the seventh best mark in the hammer with a throw of 213-6. Junior Nicholas Scarvelis has thrown the ninth best mark in the shot put at 65-0.50 while senior Tatum Souza totaled 5,771 points in the heptathlon to also rank ninth.
A couple weeks after compiling the number two and three times in the 10,000m in UCLA history, seniors Bronte Golick and Kelsey Smith will look to post impressive times in the 5,000m at the Steve Scott Invitational on Friday evening. The event is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
The UCLA distance runners will return to the oval on Saturday, May 9 to compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival while the Pac-12 Championships will begin for the multi athletes on that date at Drake Stadium.
