UCLA Posts Impressive Marks on Final Day of Pac-12 Championships

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team wrapped up the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday at Drake Stadium. The men’s team placed fourth with 83 points while the women finished fifth with 64 points.
The Bruins showcased 16 scorers on the final day and an individual title. Ida Storm started off the day with a victory in the hammer. The senior seized the lead on her fifth attempt, launching a season-best 215-0 to win the event.
Also scoring big points for UCLA was Cody Crampton in the high jump. Crampton placed third with a season best clearance of 7-1. Nick Hartle also got third place points in the 800m, clocking a time of 1:47.80.
In the women’s 800m, Ally Courtnall used a huge lifetime best to finish fifth. Her time of 2:05.48 ranks seventh on the UCLA all-time list. The senior cut over four seconds off her personal best over the course of the weekend.
The UCLA freshmen made some noise this weekend. Leon Powell placed fifth in both the 100m and 200m sprints. The newcomer clocked a 10.44 in the 100m and came back to run a season best 21.01 in the 200m.
In the hurdles a pair of freshmen scored for the Bruins. Steele Wasik finished fifth with a time of 14.26 while Misana Viltz followed in sixth at 14.32. In the 100m hurdles Tatum Souza ran a 14.19 to finish eighth.
Elena Clarke finished fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-0.25. Faith Anumba scored in the triple jump with a mark of 40-0.75 to place seventh.
Nicholas Scarvelis came back from his shot put title to finish seventh in the discus with a throw 175-7.
Jarret Gonzales finished eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.03 while Lane Werley came back from his 10,000m debut to finish eighth in the 5,000m with a time of 14:01.34.
The relays were highlighted by the women’s 4x400m that finished sixth with a season best time of 3:37.84. The men placed seventh in the 4x100m with a time of 40.72 while the women crossed the line in eighth at 45.78.
UCLA will have a week off to prepare for the NCAA West Regionals. The meet will be held in Austin, Texas and begin on Thursday, May 28.
