Three Bruins Reach NCAA Round of 16 in Singles

Waco, Texas - Three UCLA women's tennis players won singles matches on Thursday to reach the round of 16 at the NCAA Tennis Championships at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center. UCLA is the only school in the country with three players still alive in the draw.

Top-seeded Robin Anderson continued her dominance, as she was a straight-set winner over Stanford's Caroline Doyle. Another Pac-12 rival awaits Anderson in the round of 16, as she will take on USC's Sabrina Santamaria on Friday.
Senior Chanelle Van Nguyen also won in straight sets in the second round, upsetting sixth-seeded Julia Elbaba of Virginia, 6-2, 6-0. Next up is a meeting with hometown favorite Ema Burgic of Baylor.
Sophomore Jennifer Brady needed three sets to reach the round of 16 but advanced nonetheless, downing Mississppi State's Jasmine Lee, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 to set up a showdown with 9-16 seeded Danielle Collins of Virginia. Collins is the defending NCAA Singles Champion.
By reaching the round of 16, all three Bruin players have earned All-America honors in singles for 2015.
UCLA's lone loss in singles on Thursday came when junior Catherine Harrison fell to Clemson's 9-16 seeded Joana Eidukonyte, 6-2, 6-3.
Friday's round of 16 matches are all scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. (CST).
UCLA also went 1-1 in first-round doubles action on Thursday. Anderson and Brady overcame a slow start to down Jeltje Loomans and Leeza Nemchinov of William & Mary, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. They will meet top-seeded Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe of Alabama on Friday at 2:00 p.m. (CST).
Third-seeded Harrison and Kyle McPhillips were upset by Vanderbilt's Ashleigh Antal and Astra Sharma, 6-4, 6-4.
