UCLA Track and Field Closes Out NCAA West Prelims

AUSTIN, Texas – The UCLA track & field team wrapped up competition at the NCAA West Prelims on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Bruins closed out the meet with senior Derek Eager, junior Lane Werley and the women’s 4x100m relay team securing spots at the NCAA Championships.
In the first event on the track the Bruins stepped up in a big way in the women’s 4x100m relay, running a huge season best time of 44.82 to place 12th and advance to Eugene.
Eager used his third and final throw to punch his ticket to the national meet for the second time in his career. Sitting outside the top-12, Eager launched the javelin 229-9 to finish fifth overall and easily make the field.
Werley secured his first trip to the National Championships by clocking the seventh fastest time in the 5k. A day after running the 10k, the junior nearly ran a season best with a time of 13:56.95.
In the triple jump Faith Anumba finished 44th with a leap of 38-7.75. Sophomore Torie Owers placed 23rd in the shot put with a throw of 49-9.75. Sophomore Zaybree Haury finished 21st with a throw of 148-7.
On the track senior Daniel Herrera placed 21st in the 1,500m with a time of 3:49.38. Freshman Misana Viltz clocked a 14.01 in the 110m hurdles to place 19th.
A day after qualifying in the 10k, senior Bronte Golick came back to run a 16:42.75 in the 5k to finish 23rd. The women’s 4x400m relay closed out the meet by running a time of 3:39.78.
UCLA will cap off its season at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The meet will be held at historic Hayward Field and begin on June 10.
