UCLA Prepares to Host Multi Portion of Pac-12 Championships

LOS ANGELES – Drake Stadium will be the host site for the 2015 Pac-12 Championships. The meet will begin this weekend with the multi events. The competition will start on Saturday, May 9, at Noon. Sunday’s portion will begin at 11 a.m.
Tickets for the Pac-12 Championships are available through the UCLA Central Ticket Office. Orders may be placed HERE or by calling the ticket office at (310) UCLA-WIN or (310) 825-2101. The Central Ticket Office will be open Monday, May 11-Friday, May 15.
Those wishing to purchase tickets beginning on Saturday, May 16 will need to do so at Drake Stadium. The ticket windows at Drake Stadium will open 90 minutes prior to the start of the competition. Admission to the Pac- 12 Combined Events weekend is free of charge.
Representing UCLA at the meet in the heptathlon will be seniors Tatum Souza and Alexis Walker and sophomore Monique Van. The heptathlon will be a strength for the Bruins as Souza holds the second best score in UCLA history with 5,771 points while Walker has posted the 10th best at 5,409. Van sports a lifetime best of 4,695 points.
Entering the meet, Souza showcases the top score in the conference this season with her lifetime best score of 5,771 while Walker ranks sixth with her score of 5,161 this season. Souza was the runner-up in the Pac-12 Championships in 2013 while Walker finished fourth last season in the multi-event.
On the men’s side in the decathlon, senior Marcus Nilsson holds the third best score in school history with 8,104 points. He enters the weekend ranked third in the Pac-12 with 7,599 in his only decathlon of the season. Nilsson placed fourth at the 2013 Pac-12 Championships. Freshman Zack Bornstein will be looking to complete his first collegiate decathlon. The newcomer holds the California junior record in the decathlon.
On top of the multi events at Drake Stadium this weekend a group of UCLA distance runners will compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival on Saturday, May 9. FloTrack will stream all the running events live.
Next weekend the Pac-12 Championships will continue at Drake Stadium, beginning on Saturday, May 16th and will conclude on Sunday, May 17. The championship will be tape delayed on the Pac-12 Networks and will air on Sunday, May 24 at 9 a.m. PT. Paul Sunderland, Tom Feuer and Allyson Felix will be calling all the action, with Jill Savage reporting from the track.
