LOS ANGELES - Ciara Monahan qualified for August's AT&T USA Diving Senior National Championships after her fifth-place finish in the 1-Meter at last weekend's USA Diving Zone F Championships Meet at USC.
Monahan, who will be making her second appearance at Senior Nationals (December 2013), was fourth in the preliminaries on June 11, which advanced her to the event final. Fighting off a tough field, and falling as far down as 14th after her second dive, Monahan climbed back up in her last three dives to place fifth and earn the last ticket to Senior Nationals, which will take place in Orlando, Fla. (Aug. 11-13).
Monahan also competed in the 3-Meter on June 14 and placed 13th, missing a chance to dive in the final by 10 points. Fellow Bruin Annika Lenz was also scheduled to compete at the Zone Meet, but did not due to injury.
Maria Polyakova, the reigning Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year, is competing in this weekend's European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, where she will dive in the 1-Meter on Friday, 3-Meter Synchro on Saturday and 3-Meter on Sunday.
