UCLA Heads to Eugene for NCAA National Championships

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track & field team will wrap up its season at the NCAA National Championships this week in Eugene, Ore., at Historic Hayward Field. The meet will begin on Wednesday, June 10 and conclude on Saturday, June 13.
The Bruins had 14 athletes qualify for the national meet, including the women’s 4x100m relay team.
On the women’s side, senior Bronte Golick qualified in the 10,000m. She holds a personal best of 34:03.41, which ranks second all-time at UCLA. Her prelim time of 34:50.54 is the 24th ranked time in the field.
Senior Zibby Boyer is making her second trip to the national meet after posting the 21st best mark in the prelims with a clearance of 5-10. The Pac-12 champion holds a personal best of 6-1.25, which is tied for the seventh best mark in the nation this season and tied for fourth all-time at UCLA.
Senior Tatum Souza returns to the NCAA Championship in the heptathlon. Souza showcases the 12th best score in the country with 5,771 points. That score from Mt. SAC this season, ranks second all-time at UCLA.
The 4x100m relay used a big season best of 44.82 to make the field. The quartet (Sydney Lewis, Jessie Maduka, Maya Brown and Ashley Lewis) are all making their debut at nationals.
On the men’s side, junior Nicholas Scarvelis was the top qualifier for the Bruins. His throw of 64-3.75 was the sixth best mark in the prelims. The Pac-12 champion holds a personal best of 65-0.50 that ranks 10th in the nation and also 10th all-time at UCLA.
Senior Derek Eager tossed the seventh best preliminary mark in the javelin with a 229-8. Eager has thrown a personal best of 233-9 this season to improve his UCLA top-10 mark to sixth. That mark also ranks 18th in the nation this season.
Also in the throws, senior Alec Faldermeyer will once again compete in the hammer at the national meet. Faldermeyer recorded the 23rd best mark at the prelims with a throw of 208-5. The senior holds the 18th best mark in the country with a season best of 218-3. His PR of 229-3 ranks second all-time at UCLA.
UCLA qualified a pair of decathletes. Senior Marcus Nilsson compiled the seventh best score in the country this season with 7,663 points. Freshman Steele Wasik qualified in the grueling multi-event in his first season with a score of 7,521 points. That total ranks 14th in the country and eighth all-time at UCLA.
On the track, junior Nick Hartle will be making his second straight trip to Eugene in the 800m. Hartle clocked the 23rd fastest prelim time at 1:48.79 and has run a season best of 1:47.68.
Junior Lane Werley posted the 11th fastest qualifying time in the 5,000m with a 13:56.95. Werley holds a season best of 13:56.49. The appearance will be his first at the national meet.
