UCLA Teams Again Earn High APR Marks

UCLA teams continue to achieve high marks in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates (APR), which were released today by the NCAA for all Division I sports teams for the four-year period between 2011-12 and 2014-15. Every UCLA sport had four-year APR averages well above the 930 score that the NCAA uses as a threshold for penalties.
Each Bruin team earned multi-year rates over 960, with three teams receiving an APR Public Recognition Award with perfect scores of 1000. The award-winning teams are the two-time defending NCAA champion men’s water polo team, the No. 1-ranked women’s golf team (for the seventh consecutive year) and the No. 3-ranked men’s volleyball team.
“The ability to successfully balance the rigors of academic commitments and athletic participation is a unique skill,” said Dr. Christina Rivera, Associate Athletic Director for Academic & Student Services. “It requires time management, sacrifice, persistence and dedication to excel in both. The fact that our student-athletes manage this at an institution as academically and athletically competitive as UCLA is a testament to their work ethic and continues to be a great source of pride for all of us in our Athletic Department.”
A total of 15 UCLA teams – men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s soccer, men’s tennis, men’s volleyball, men’s water polo, women’s beach volleyball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women's gymnastics, women’s soccer, women’s swimming & diving, women’s tennis, women’s volleyball and women’s water polo – earned single-year perfect marks of 1,000.
A multi-year APR score of 930 is the minimum level of academic success; teams scoring below 930 are ineligible for postseason and subject to additional penalties determined by the NCAA. No UCLA team has ever had a rate lower than the required benchmark since the implementation of the NCAA APR.
