Postgame Notes - UCLA at Arizona State (Nov. 10, 2018)
UCLA GAME NOTES
*After his two-yard run for a touchdown at Arizona State, Joshua Kelley has now scored a touchdown in the last six straight games … the last Bruin player to do so was Maurice Jones-Drew who also had six in 2005.
*Receiver Greg Dulcich, TE David Priebe and OT Alec Anderson each saw their first career action at ASU bringing the number of true freshmen played this season to a school record total of 20. The old mark was 18 set in 2013. The others: RB Kazmeir Allen, RB Martell Irby, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, WR Kyle Philips, OL Christaphany Murray, WR Chase Cota, DL Atonio Mafi, DL Tyler Manoa, DB Stephan Blaylock, DB Rayshad Williams, DL Otito Ogbonnia, DB Elisha Guidry, WR Michael Ezeike, WR Delon Hurt, LB Bo Calvert, LB Elijah Wade and DB Alex Johnson.
*Theo Howard has now caught a pass in each of his last 26 straight games. With the two receptions against ASU, Howard has moved up into the school’s top 20 and now places tied for 18th on the all-time UCLA receptions list (also Terrence Austin, 2006-09) with a total of 109 career catches.
*Caleb Wilson had a season-high 11 receptions at Arizona State and now has 101 for his career. He is the 26th Bruin receiver to reach the 100-catch mark. Wilson also recorded his fourth career 100-yard receiving yard game (164 yards vs. ASU) and the second of this season (102 vs. Washington). It was the first two-touchdown game (33 yards and 10 yards) of Wilson’s career.
*QB Wilton Speight threw for a UCLA personal best of 335 passing yards. His career best of 362 passing yards came against Maryland in 2016 while he was playing for Michigan.
*Darnay Holmes returned an interception for a touchdown for the second time in his career. The return against ASU went for 31 yards and last season against Hawai’i, he returned a pick 30 yards for a score.
*Adarius Pickett finished with 11 tackles to produce the team tackle high for the eighth time this season. It was the sixth double-digit effort of this season and the ninth of his career. He now has 107 tackles in 2018 which lifts him over the 100-tackle mark for the first time in his career. The last Bruin defensive back with at least 100 tackles in a season was Dennis Keyes (115) in 2007.
*The Bruins will be back in action next Saturday, Nov. 17 to host USC in the Rose Bowl. Kickoff is to be determined.
