“We were stagnant. They’re good. They do a really good job, defensively, and they play some man and some matchup zone. Again, they were 10-4 coming into the game, and their four losses were all by single digits. I mean, they could easily be 14-0. They are not easy to beat here. We were just really stagnant, offensively. We didn’t zip it around like we’d been doing. I think Oregon State had a lot to do with that. Defensively, they’re pretty good.”

on how disappointing this game was after an emotional win at Oregon on Thursday
“Well, these are two tough games, having to play at Oregon and then at Oregon State. I’m not happy with us getting a split. Obviously, we won the first one and we wanted to win this one, but I mean, it isn’t easy to beat Oregon on the road. Ask SC tonight, you saw what happened to them. Oregon State is really good. They’re playing good and their best players really played well tonight. And offensively for us, we just never really got flowing. I didn’t think that we got Moses Brown enough touches. Too many perimeter shots. Not enough inside-outside action. We were just a little stagnant. And our transition game never really got going. But again, I give all the credit to Oregon State, or a lot of it. I thought Oregon State’s defense had a lot to do with that.”

on Kris Wilkes and getting him going on the offensive end
“I thought it was really encouraging late, though. And I know that it was late and it had gotten a bit out of hand, but it was very encouraging to see him get some rhythm and to see him hit some threes late. I think that can help us as we move forward. Obviously, he is a critical guy. He needs to score for us and be efficient for us. Jaylen Hands, same thing. He has got to be efficient.”

on the key to fixing any issues regarding ball movement
“We’ve just got to keep drilling it. I mean, we want to score in transition. But we have got some challenges, offensively. We have to keep working on it, executing it, drilling it, and trying to get a little bit better. We’ve got to have better ball movement, better player movement, we’ve got to get the ball to Moses Brown more. We’ve got to get him more touches and more looks. We’ve got to play more inside-out, so I think we can solve it. But we have still got a lot of work.”

on Jaylen Hands notching just two assists
“We just never, and I give Oregon State a lot of credit, but we just never got going in transition. We did not get a lot a lot there. I think we had five transition points at half. I don’t know what we had in the second half, but I know in the first half we had five transition points. So, I don’t think we scored a lot in transition. Again, you have to give them a lot of credit for that. Our offensive flow was bad. Maybe some of that is us. But I think that a lot of that was the way they guard. They’re a very, I mean just look at their stats and their numbers, they’re very good defensively. You know, I thought that we came out at the start of the second half down six and then [we were] up one. We looked pretty good right there, and before you could blink, we’re down 10.”

on Oregon State’s 11-1 run midway through the second half
“They just made some plays. We made some mistakes, defensively. They’ve got really good players. [Stephen] Thompson is going to play in the NBA. Tres Tinkle is good. The other Thompson is good. Kelley really hurt us. So, you look at how four of their starters went for 14, 14 and 17, 17. They were attacking down in the gut part of our zone. They did a nice job of attacking it. That hurt us.”

on whether UCLA varied its zone defense
“We played some 2-3 and at one point we went to a 1-3-1, which we hadn’t shown.”

on what he saw with regard to UCLA’s ball movement
“You know, it was rough for us there. We had been scoring in the 90s and to have 63 is a drop-off. But, I think that their matchup zone kind of got to us. Myself, most importantly, but everybody else, too, has to see what they’re running to get the ball movement and we’ll get back to that.”

on what made the matchup zone difficult to play against
“It’s a zone that is different. But, it’s more on us, and we’ll figure that out.”

on the team’s mindset after having had two days to prep since the win at Oregon
“I think that we were really focused. For the most part in the game, we were focused. I just think that tonight, it was a matter of us shooting 38 percent from the field. They scored 77, which isn’t bad and we only had around 63.”

on Oregon State using an 11-1 scoring run in the second half to secure control
“You know, it’s a game of runs. We all know that and when we go play on the road, there are going to be runs. It’s just like, we have runs when we play at home. I just think that we need to do a better job of weathering those. In that case, I think we called a timeout when things were getting a little bit crazy, but the next time that happens, we’ve just got to calm down and collect ourselves and go out and do better.”

on Kris Wilkes being able to rebound from an 8-for-22 shooting effort
“Kris is a great player. I’m confident that he is going to get back on. At the end of that game, I think he shot something like three threes, so hopefully he sees that and he knows he can get that stroke back. I don’t think that there is anything that we should tell him or that anyone else should tell him. He’s going to get back to where he needs to.”

on how he’d characterize the trip to Oregon and Oregon State
“Any time that you can get a split, at the Oregon schools, it’s good. But we are greedy. We want to win both of them. I don’t think that today was more of a letdown, effort-wise. I just think that we were missing shots. We’re satisfied with the one win, with the split, but we wanted two.”

“They just made shots. They were really steady. That is a veteran group and they’ve been playing together for a while. They know how to hold onto a lead. They made shots and were very steady.”

“Absolutely. We never give up. We play the game until the clock hits zero. We thought that we could do it. But, it just didn’t happen like that tonight.”

on Oregon State’s matchup zone potentially causing some ball movement issues for UCLA
“Yeah, credit to them. You know, we were standing around a little bit trying to figure it out. We should have just been playing. So, credit to them. They played well. That was a good zone.”

on UCLA manufacturing just 12 assists
“We’ve just got to move the ball and get in the paint. It’s a lot of things. Obviously, I have not seen the game [film] yet, but when I watch it, I can kind of figure out where we went wrong.”

on the importance of getting Kris Wilkes back into a strong rhythm
“It’s important for the team. He’s one of the best players on the team. It’s important for him to get going early. For him individually, it’s important for him also. It’s very important.”

“No, I wanted to get a sweep. So, no, I’m not satisfied. You always want to come out on the road and win two games. I’m not satisfied.”

“We’ll take tomorrow off. We’ll get back it at it on Tuesday and work hard. We’ve just got to keep doing what we have been doing. Working hard and listening to the coaches.”
