Colin Lockett begins his first season as wide receivers coach for the UCLA football program in 2026. He arrived in Westwood after spending the 2025 season at New Mexico. The 2026 campaign marks Lockett’s seventh year of coaching.

Lockett helped New Mexico to a bowl game appearance and a 9-3 record leading the wide receivers on head coach Jason Eck’s staff in 2025; it marked the first time in program history that a first-year staff had accomplished those two feats. The Lobos capped the regular season by defeating San Diego State in a 2OT thriller for its sixth straight victory before narrowly missing a berth into the Mountain West Conference Championship game. Wide receiver Keagan Johnson led New Mexico with 772 yards on 61 catches, including three touchdowns, earning him All-Mountain West Honorable Mention.

Prior to New Mexico, Lockett spent one season as the wide receivers coach at the FCS level at UC Davis in 2024. In his lone year, the Aggies won a school-record 11 games, going 11-3 overall, and advanced to the FCS Playoff Quarterfinals for the second time in program history. UC Davis’ offense ranked third in the FCS in passing yards (331.6), while Lockett’s wide receivers group finished the season with 2,800 yards and 22 total touchdowns. Four of Lockett’s wideouts at UC Davis surpassed 600 receiving yards and combined to record seven separate 100-plus-yard receiving performances.

Lockett served Oregon as a graduate assistant for two seasons, coaching receivers in 2022 and running backs in 2023. The 2022 Ducks went 10-3 overall and 7-2 in Pac-12 Conference play, tying for second place. The following season, Oregon went 12-2, including 8-1 in league play, and made a Pac-12 Championship game appearance before beating Liberty, 45-6, in the 2023 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

With the Ducks, Lockett coached running back Bucky Irving, a fourth-round NFL Draft choice by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and receiver Troy Franklin, a fourth-round pick by the Denver Broncos. While a member of the Ducks’ staff, he participated in the Second Annual Diversity Coaching Summit, held at the home of the Minnesota Vikings at the TCO Performance Center.

Before Oregon, Lockett was hired as a defensive backs quality control coach for one season at Washington where he worked with future NFL players Jordan Perryman and Mishael Powell.

Lockett started his collegiate coaching career in 2020 as a graduate assistant at his alma mater San Diego State. He spent the three previous years on staff at St. John Bosco High School as a defensive backs coach, helping the Braves win the 2019 National Championship.

A native of Diamond Bar, Calif., Lockett graduated from San Diego State with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2014. He totaled 1,999 receiving yards on 130 catches, including 16 touchdowns, over his Aztec career. An all-purpose player, Lockett also averaged 24.1 yards on 92 returns with three touchdowns. Lockett, who was a defensive back his freshman season, ended his career with 4,405 all-purpose yards.

Lockett parleyed his college career into a brief stint in the NFL with stops in Cincinnati and Washington before playing in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions.
