Phil Magbanua enters his second season at UCLA and his first as the Director of Football Operations. In this role, Magbanua oversees all aspects of the football program, and is the liaison between the Football Team and all other areas of the Athletic Department and UCLA campus.

Magbanua joined the Bruins from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore. where he masterminded record-setting and explosive offenses in each of his seasons as the Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach.ย Magbanua helped quarterback Keith Welch become the No. 1 player in total career yards in the history of the Northwest Conference; No. 2 in the state of Oregon for all levels (only behind Neil Lomax). Welch also holds the school record for career passing yards and career TD passes. ย In 2013, the offense also touted the No. 1 Division III receiver in the nation Andrew Frisina, who averaged 10 receptions per game.

In 2011, Magbanua led the Pioneers to the No. 1-ranked total offense average in the Northwest Conference (NWC) and the No. 16 ranking in the nation, helping to guide the team to its best season since 1991. The team started the season with a 7-0 record, a feat last accomplished by Lewis & Clark in 1963.ย The sophomore Welch, the NWC Offensive Player of the Year, broke the 23-year-old record for consecutive passing attempts without an interception with 165.ย Senior Shawn Evans (First-Team All-NWC) ended the season as the No. 2 tight end in the nation in receptions per game, earning him First-Team All-Regionย and First-Teamย All-America awards. Evans finished his career as the No. 1 receiving tight end in the history of Lewis & Clark.
In Magbanuaโs first year as offensive coordinator, the Pioneers ranked 16thย in the nation in rushing yards, and broke two single-game school records in yards rushing (549 vs Pomona Pitzer) and points scored (68 vs UPS).ย

Prior to Lewis & Clark, Magbanua was at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2002-08) where he was the offensive graduate assistant, working with running backs the first year and tight ends the second. During his time with the Rebels, he also had roles as the Assistant Video Coordinator and most recently Director of Player Personnel and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator.

In 2001, Magbanua served as an offensive assistant and video coordinator for Cal State Northridge.
Magbanua began his career as a running back coach at Santa Barbara City College, where he played while attending UC Santa Barbara.ย He graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2000 with a bachelorโs degree in psychology with a minor in coaching.
