Trey Doty enters his second season on the UCLA men’s basketball staff in 2026-27. Doty served as a graduate assistant in 2025-26 before being named Director of Scouting and Strategy in the summer of 2026. The 2026-27 basketball season marks Doty’s sixth year assisting UCLA’s program, having spent his first four seasons as a student manager.
Doty, who graduated from UCLA in 2025 with his undergraduate degree in economics, assists UCLA’s team in a variety of avenues – in particular with recruiting strategy and player development. His work includes responsibilities with talent identification, evaluation processes and analyzing high school, transfer portal and international prospects. Doty plays a major role with UCLA’s video and scout edits, practice film, and managing individual player video edits. He has coordinated in-game video uploads for the men’s basketball team, providing real-time video clips from the team bench and immediate video transfer abilities.
Doty’s responsibilities will also center on player development, both on-court assistance and individual film study. Last season, he worked on a daily basis with forward Tyler Bilodeau, who was selected in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft. As a student manager, he assisted with film breakdown, organizing scouting reports, and handling various day-to-day operational duties.
In addition to his work with UCLA’s program, Doty spent the summer of 2024 as an intern in the video department with the New Orleans Pelicans at the NBA Summer League. His responsibilities with the Pelicans included work in multiple video capacities at meetings, practices, film sessions and summer league games. Doty also worked in an assistant capacity with game operations for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA Summer League in 2022 and 2023.
Doty, pronounced DOH-tee, graduated from nearby Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif., where he played basketball for four seasons and was honored as a senior class valedictorian. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and spent his childhood in Waimea, Hawai’i, and in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He moved with his family to Long Beach for high school. Doty earned his master’s degree in education through UCLA’s Transformative Coaching and Leadership Program in 2026.
