Tyree Thompson made his return to the UCLA football program as an analyst in January 2025 under head coach DeShaun Foster. Thompson, a linebacker for the Bruins in 2018 and 2019, served as a graduate assistant at Arizona State (2024) and Hawaiโ€™i (2022, 2023) before making his return.

Thompson helped the Sun Devils to an 11-3 record and a spot in the College Football Playoff during his time in the desert. He worked specifically with a defensive line unit that contributed to the Big 12 Conferenceโ€™s best rushing defense (112.9 yards per game, 21st nationally) and top-40 scoring (22.6 points per game, 37th) and total (339.6 yards per game, 38th) defenses. ASU captured the Big 12 championship in its first season as a member university.

Part of head coach Timmy Changโ€™s first staff with the Rainbow Warriors, Thompson helped guide the UH linebackers. The program showed a two-game improved from 2022 to 2023, winning three of its final four games in the latter season. The Rainbow Warriors held the Mountain West Conferenceโ€™s best red zone defense in 2023.

Thompsonโ€™s playing career on the college level spanned six seasons and, in addition to his time at UCLA, included stops at Buffalo (2020), Los Angeles Valley College (2017) and Sacramento State (2015, 2016). His finest season came with the Bruins in 2018, when he piled up 55 total tackles. Six of his stops went for negative yardage. A native of Pacoima, Calif., Thompson made the UCLA Athletic Directorโ€™s Honor Roll four times before graduating with his bachelorโ€™s degree in sociology. Thompson attended Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, Calif.
