The men's and women's track and field teams will return to Oregon this weekend to compete in the NCAA West Region Championships as NCAA Outdoor meet berths are on the line in Eugene.

Both teams were in Eugene two weeks ago for the Pac-10 Championships and now return with the goal of qualifying as many athletes as possible to the NCAA Outdoor meet, held in Fayetteville, AR June 10-13. At each of the regional meets, the top five finishers in each individual event and the top three relays will earn automatic berths into the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. At-large spots will then be awarded to athletes by the NCAA. The at-large spots are based on the 7th through 12th-place finishers at the regional meets along with their position in the national descending order list.

The women head into the regional ranked 15th as six of the top 25 teams in the NCAA will compete in Eugene (No. 1 Oregon, No. 5 USC, No. 6 Arizona St., No. 12. Stanford, No. 13. Washington, and No. 21 BYU). The men head to Oregon unranked but face stiff competition from eight top 25-ranked teams (No. 3 Oregon, No. 9 Arizona St., No. 12. USC, No. 13 Stanford, No. 15. California, No. 18. Washington, No. 22 BYU and No. 25 Arizona).
