DURHAM, N.C. - UCLA junior right-hander Trevor Bauer has been named as one of three finalists for the 2011 Golden Spikes Award, along with Virginia left-hander Danny Hultzen and Texas right-hander Taylor Jungmann.
Bauer has already been named National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball in addition to earning Pac-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year honors.
The resident of Valencia, Calif., went 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA in 16 starts as a junior, logging a nation-leading and Pac-10 single-season record 203 strikeouts. He hurled 10 complete games, finishing the season with a streak of nine consecutive complete games.
The Golden Spikes Award is presented at the end of each college baseball season to the nation's top amateur player. For the first time ever, the GSA will be awarded live on MLB Network. The presentation will begin at 3 p.m. (PDT) on Friday, July 15 on the program "MLB Tonight."
Bauer has established himself as UCLA's all-time record holder in career strikeouts (460), wins (34) and innings pitched (373.1). He also owns the top two marks on UCLA's single-season records list, having logged 203 strikeouts in 2011 and 165 in 2010.
