Bill Putnam

Guard Bill Putnam enjoyed a successful college career in the 1940s, when he became UCLA's second All-America selection in basketball. Putnam, who also lettered in football, went on to join the 20th Century-Fox basketball team that won the national AAU championship in Denver. He returned to UCLA as an assistant coach under Wilbur Johns in 1947, then was head coach of the junior varsity for two seasons. He also became the Bruins' first assistant athletic director in 1947, then resigned to enter private business in 1962. He died at 70 in 1992.
