Chris Chambliss
- Induction:
- 1984
Chris Chambliss was so impressive while leading the Bruins to their Pac-8 baseball title in 1969, his only year with UCLA, that the Cleveland Indians selected him in the major-league baseball draft. Two years later, he batted .275 and drove in 48 runs for the Indians to earn the American League's rookie of the year award. He went on to hit .279 with 185 home runs in a 17-year major league career with three teams. An All-Star first baseman, his most memorable moment came in the 1976 American League Division Series, when his ninth-inning home run against the Kansas City Royals gave the New York Yankees the pennant.
Chambliss, the Yankees' batting coach from 1996-2000, was a charter member of the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984.
