ROSEMONT, Ill. – UCLA freshman Kacey Ly was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.
Ly is the eighth Bruin to earn a conference Freshman of the Year honor and the first since Patty Tavatanakit received the award during the 2017-18 season in the Pac-12. Ly led UCLA with a 72.5 scoring average, four top-five finishes, a 90.6% counting-round percentage (31 of 35) and four eagles. She also tied for the team lead with 113 birdies.
The Temple City, California, native enjoyed a standout spring campaign, recording all four of her top-five finishes and seven rounds in the 60s during UCLA's final eight events of the season. She posted a 72.2 scoring average during the Bruins' spring schedule.
Ly earned three Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors during her debut season, tied for the most in the conference with Purdue's Luana Valero.
USC's Catherine Park was named Big Ten Player of the Year, while USC head coach Justin Silverstein earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors.
