The most prolific ball carrier in UCLA history by the end of his college career in 1980, Freeman McNeil went on to rush for more than 8,000 yards in an 11-year NFL career. McNeil was the first-round draft choice of the New York Jets in 1981, and a year later he led the NFL in rushing and was named all-pro. He had a pair of 1,000-yard rushing seasons, topped by 1,331 in 1985, and he made the Pro Bowl three times.
