Jack Tidball

Jack Tidball was one of the earliest stars in UCLA's storied tennis history, winning the first NCAA singles title by a Bruin in 1933. Tidball also earned national recognition that year when he upset former world champion Ellsworth Vines in the Pacific Southwest tournament. Tidball's son Steve was an All-America tennis player for UCLA in 1967 and co-captained the team in 1969. In 1992, Tidball was inducted into the Intercollegiate Tennis Hall of Fame in Athens, Georgia.
Tidball, who died at 88 in 2000, was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.
