A standout student and a Bruin quarterback from 1932-34, Mike Frankovich had a stellar post-UCLA career. He played two seasons of professional baseball while working concurrently as a screenwriter for several studios, including Universal and Republic. He eventually became a producer before serving in the army during World War II. He was discharged from the army as a full colonel in 1946, and two years later entered independent film production.

Frankovich moved his family to Europe and produced films in Italy, France, Spain, and England. In 1956, he was named vice president of Columbia Pictures International Corporation, and was also named managing director of Columbia Productions Limited, Columbia Pictures Limited and Columbia Music Publishing Company.

Frankovich, who died at 83 in 1992, was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
