April 17, 2026 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. โ The 21st-ranked UCLA men's tennis team bounced back from an early deficit to beat No. 51 Oregon 4-2 Friday afternoon at UO's Student Tennis Center. UCLA secured the final two points thanks to singles victories by Cassius Chunlund and clincher Rudy Quan.
Also prevailing in singles play for the Bruins (15-6, 9-3 Big Ten) were Andy Nguyen and Emon van Loben Sels. The Ducks (14-9, 5-7) held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, with Cameron Burton recording the hosts lone singles win.
The race toward Friday's first point was a close one, with van Loben Sels/Gianluca Ballotta giving UCLA an early advantage. The pair took down Cameron Burton/Sam Olszakowski 6-3 on Court 3, improving its record to 10-2. Oregon responded on Court 1, where Vlad Breazu/Declan Galligan bested Nguyen/Aadarsh Tripathi 6-2. Then, with all eyes on Court 2, the Duck duo of Pierre Mouesca/Lachlan Robertson took down Quan/Bengt Reinhard 6-4.
The Bruins shifted momentum in their direction by claiming four singles first sets. Nguyen brought them level with a 6-2, 6-2 display opposite Robertson on Court 4. Nguyen has now won three singles matches in a row.
Oregon retook the lead when Cameron Burton defeated Reinhard 6-2, 6-4 on Court 6. UCLA again had an answer, though, and it came from the 33rd-ranked van Loben Sels. The redshirt junior improved his singles records to 21-6 overall and 14-2 in dual play, knocking off Mouesca 6-4, 6-3 on Court 2.
Chinlund gave the Bruins their first lead with his team-high 15th dual singles victory. He got the better of Galligan in a 6-4, 6-1 showing on Court 5. Then, moments later, No. 94 Quan finished off No. 113 Breazu 6-2, 6-3 on the top court. Quan has now clinched sealed three team wins in 2026.
