Mike Tully was one of the world's greatest pole vaulters during and after his collegiate career at UCLA. Tully set the world indoor pole-vault record in 1978, the same year his NCAA title in the event helped earn the Bruins a share of the national championship. From 1977-1979 he was ranked among the world's top three vaulters, and over his career he ranked among the top 13 in the world nine times, and was the top-ranked vaulter in the United States three times. He was the TAC champion in 1979 and again in 1986. In 1984, he set an American record of 19-1 and won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
