  • Induction:
    1997
A four-year starter who helped UCLA's soccer team win its first national title in 1985, Paul Caliguiri went on to enjoy a successful career competing internationally and professionally. After his Bruin career, Caligiuri was one of the first American players to play on a European professional team, when he competed in the German league for three years. Back home, he will always be remembered for his historic goal in 1989 that gave the USA a 1-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago and put the Americans in the World Cup for the first time in 40 years. He started all three of the United States' World Cup games in 1990 and scored the team's first goal against Czechoslovakia. In the 1994 World Cup, Paul played every minute to help the Americans advance to the second round for the first time. He also has competed for the United States in the Olympics and played for Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy.
